about Ken

Kenneth Tietjen grew up in Middletown, NJ and always loved helping people who needed it. When he turned 18, true to his character, Ken became a volunteer firefighter in Belford, NJ before moving on to become a Port Authority police officer. On September 11, 2001, Ken was stationed at Port Authority when he heard about the attacks on the World Trade Center. He selflessly left his post, commandeered a taxi, and rushed to the World Trade Center, determined to help those in danger. Bravely running in and out of the building, he was able to evacuate many citizens in danger. He rushed into the North Tower one final time, just as it collapsed. Tragically, Ken gave his life in the line of duty at the age of 31.

Ken was deeply passionate about giving back to his community, especially during the holiday season. One of his favorite traditions was donating brand-new bikes to families at Christmas, bringing joy to children and families in need.

In honor of Ken's legacy, his family continues this cherished tradition and aims to expand it, ensuring that his spirit of generosity lives on. Join us in celebrating Ken's life and supporting this meaningful initiative by donating an assembled bike and helmet.
